CLICK HERE for the Flyer. There are 44 lanes we can have 5 or 6 bowlers per lane. THE GOAL IS TO FILL THE BOWLING ALLEY. This will be a fun event and a great opportunity to get together and raise some money for the program (ALL PROCEED GO TO EASTERN SOCCER) Parents, friends, and relatives are all invited-not just the players. We are having a contest between the girls and boys teams (JV and Varsity combined) to see which will bring the most bowlers. Tammy Moriarty will begin selling tickets and assigning lanes at the home soccer games and may be at practices. You can email tammoriarty@insightbb.com Girls Battle Male and CAL The Lady Eagles continue on their plan to practice hard, play as competitive schedule as anyone, and improve with a solid post season showing in mind. On Wednesday August 25 the girls faced familiar cross town nemesis Male at home. As expected, from the first whistle this was a spirited game with Keeper Emily Reed keeping the sheet clean making diving saves in the first half. Eastern countered but the game remained scoreless. Late in second half, Eastern pressure resulted in Male being called for for a foul just outside the box. Charlotte Pruett stepped up to the ball and skillfully bent it over the goalie, into the net for the first score of the night. However, the Lady Bulldogs lived up to their reputation by pushing for the equalizer. Coach Mozejko's defense held strong to maintain the slim lead including a late diving save by Emily Reed to preserve the victory. A great 1-0 win for the Eagles! No chance to relax as Monday night August 30, the Eastern girls had the large task of traveling to Christian Academy to battle this seasoned squad. CAL has some impressive results to date including tying three time back-to-back State Champion, Sacred Heart. It was back and forth early on as both teams probed for openings. CAL was first to find one punching in a nice shot to go up 1-0. The Lady Eagles created a few chances but CAL countered successfully twice more pushing the score to 3-0. The girls continued to battle pushing to close the gap but alas this was not their night as their soccer balls were hitting the post on their best chances of the night and the score finished 5-0. Congrats to CAL but the Eagles will use this to get better. Men Defend State Ranking of #19 Coach Hawes was interested to see how the boys would play after an exciting win over CAL last week. Furthermore, the rankings came out early that day and the men were proud to be rated #19. Shelby County traveled to the home of the Eagles Tuesday August 31 prepared for an upset. Early on the Rockets showed their mettle thwarting the Eagle attack and creating a chance of their own with a solid save by Keeper Chay Smithson. The repeated pressure resulted in several corners and finally a goal. Kody Rhines outside the far post volleyed a ball in despite a defender valiantly attempting to head it out. Shelby Country defended well and the halftime score was 1-0. Coaches Hawes, Rullan, and Gillum carefully "explained" at halftime where they felt the men needed some improvements and the Eagles came out firing. Credit the Rockets defense as the Eagles had to use literally every body part to begin their offensive assault. Ryan Whatley, Trevor Speer and Michael Ydoate "efforted" in goals. John Bruno played a beautiful cross and Beau Laufer headed it in. Spencer Zwenger punched in the last goal of the night and Eagles prevailed 9-1 to remain undefeated. Solid work from the boys, Ryan Moriarty came back from an injury at CAL to anchor the defense and again Coach Hawes used the full team to wear down the tough Shelby County team. Next week: tough KCD and top 5 team Male. |

Jill Mozejko
Takes Over the Reins for the Varsity Lady Eagles 2010 brings a new name but a familiar face to the Eastern Highs School Lady Eagles Soccer Team. Jill Mozejko will be heading
up the program as Varsity Head Coach. She has been
involved with the program for some time now so it should be an
easy transition maintaining their great tradition.
Assisting Coach Mozejko with the Varsity and serving as JV Head
Coach will be Katie Holm. Katie brings great experience
and energy to help develop the future Varsity Stars.
Another familiar name and member of the Eagle Family, Amanda
Blanchard will also be assisting as Team Manager. 2010 will be an exciting
year!
The GIRLS tentative schedule as of 6/15/10 can be accessed by CLICKING
HERE. And above is the link for the Varsity Blue Grass
Games participation. Thanks again to Kenny Burke for doing a great job as the
Girls Head Soccer Coach. He had big shoes to fill replacing Satko Lunja who
went 38-26-5 over the past 4 years with 2 District
Championships. Coach Burke and the ladies had a terrific season:
13-6-0. Edged out at Districts for the Championship they
battled South Oldham in Regional. |
2009 Season Comes to A Close... After a solid night of Team Building, the Men defeated a determined and much improved Jeffersontown at CAL. The first half was a bit of a close shave at 2-0 before the Eagles poured it on to win 7-0. No rest for the weary as they battled KCD the
very next day. It was a very even contest with both
defenses playing very well limiting the offensive
opportunities. Unfortunately, KCD was awarded a free
kick just outside the Eagles 18 and converted to go up 1-0.
Pushing to equalize, the men had several quality chances but
could not convert. The Lady Eagles hosted District 15
and Coach Burke saw these fine young women work hard and
improve literally every day. This paid off on Tuesday 10/13
with a solid opening victory over KCD 3 -0. On 10/15
they
battled
rival
Ballard who was seeking to avenge an earlier 3-2
defeat. A tough battle that could have gone either way
finally went to Ballard 2-0. However, both teams
advanced to the very, very difficult 8th Region where
perennial powers North and South Oldham awaited. The
difficult schedule took its toll with some key injuries
which helped South Oldham roll to a 4-0 win. Tough
loss but Coach Burke and the Lady Eagles should be very
proud of what they accomplished. Thanks to the entire
coaching staff, players (especially the seniors) for the
hard work and effort. Thanks to Chris Bonham, Mr.
Howard, Mr. Sexton (gone but not forgotten), Mr. Moeller,
and new principal Ms. Kaelin for their terrific support!
Last but not least, thanks to all of the parents and friends
for their hard work on the field and concession stand. |
