| 2008 Eastern High School Senior Girls |
The Eagle Ladies played an extremely difficult season building the toughness required for an even tougher District Tournament. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as CAL edged Eastern in overtime. This should not take away from the terrific work these great ladies showed all year. There is a solid core of returning players who have to work hard to live up to the unselfish play of the departing Seniors.
Ellie Kohler, transferred in to
Eastern her Junior year joining the Varsity squad her first
year. A key substitute for Coach Lunja, she would fill
in wherever he needed a spark. As a junior she scored
a key goal against Ballard
in the Bulldog Cup. Keeping the players relaxed to
play their best, Ellie provided good social
leadership for the team.
Shelbi Ledford,
played Varsity all four years. She was a very hard worker
earning a starting spot during her Junior and Senior years.. She
had the skills to play forward, sweeper and outside midfield. Her
forte however was solid unyielding defense.
Alex Redmond
was also a four year Eagle making the Varsity squad
her Junior and Senior years. A two sport Fall athlete,
Alex found ways to be a solid forward for the soccer team,
tallying a few goals. Like Ellie, Coach Lunja used
Alex to bring energy off the bench. Very importantly,
she is an excellent student serving as a good
academic role model.
Stephanie Routh,
team player first, made the sacrifice of changing positions during her junior year for
the good of the team to become the Varsity Goal Keeper. That
is one of the toughest positions on the field and her Junior
year she was top 10 in fewest goals allowed in Kentucky. She
transferred in from Mercy her sophomore year Eastern is glad
for it.
Che'la Welch
became an Eagle her Senior year transferring from Shelby
County. A fearless defender, Eastern would have loved
to
have had her four years. Doing the required dirty work, Che'la was a hard nosed physical defender never
backing down from a challenge.
The remaining core of players have a bright future thanks to to example of selfless hard work set by these five leaders. Eagle Supporters thank you for your contributions for your entire career.
