Eagle Men and Women Battle for 2008 District
2008 Eastern Eagles Men 2008 Eastern High School Men's Team

Yankee great Yogi Berra once said "Its deja vu all over again".  Yogi could have been describing the 2008 Boys and Girls District 15 games.  Both squads played at very high levels against terrific competition during the season.  However, a season can be long and there are games where the teams were not clicking on all cylinders.  Coaches Hawes and Lunja work hard to get the teams fine tuned for Districts and hopefully the Regional.  In 2007 it worked as the boys captured the District Title.  The Lady Eagles put together an impressive streak only to lose an extremely tough District Game.

The Boys wanted to see History repeated while the Girls were hoping to write a new Chapter.   On Tuesday October 14, the Boys took to the Eastern Pitch against the talented and always tough Kentucky Country Day Bearcats.  The Eagles had won the earlier matchup but KCD was bent on a different result.  The two teams played to scoreless draw the first half making both sets of fans a bit nervous.  However, shortly into the second half Sophomore Josh Wedding won a battle in the corner playing a perfect cross in the box.  Senior Cody Covert did what he has done all year - CONVERT.  Timing his flight perfectly he nailed a header to put the Eagles on top.  The boys had several more chances but to KCD's credit they held them off and in the last couple of minutes had several quality chances.  Senior Defender Eric Shacklette and Senior Keeper Chris D'Aniello were keys in preserving the clean sheet.  The final siren blew with EHS claiming a slim 1-0 victory. Cheers and relieved exhales followed - you simply can never count a KCD team out.  Next up:  CAL who defeated Ballard.  CAL is playing as well as anyone in the state and the Eagles have to bring their A, if not A+ game.

Speaking of CAL, the Lady Eagles came in with a lot of confidence even though on paper they were the underdogs.  Chelsea McCarty continued to show her leadership as she scored a key goal. Lady Eagles pressure led CAL to give up the dreaded OWN GOAL.  When regulation time ended it was 2-2.  Both teams had chances but CAL pushed forward and found the twine.  Overtime ended...CAL 3, EHS 2.  We are extremely proud of the effort these fine young ladies gave and how they represented Eastern.
